Workshop on Plan for Augmentation to Augment Stream Flows on the Cache la Poudre River and Proposed Acquisitions of Contractual Interests in Water Rights (Water Div. 1) from the Cities of Fort Collins, Greeley, and Thornton, in Larimer and Weld Counties
On January 22, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., the Colorado Water Conservation Board (“CWCB” or “Board”) will hold a workshop to discuss a proposal for a plan for augmentation to augment stream flows through a section of the Cache la Poudre River from the canyon mouth to its confluence with the South Platte River, a distance of approximately 55 miles (“Poudre Flows Plan”) (view agenda). This proposal, developed by water users on the Cache la Poudre River in partnership with CWCB staff and the Colorado Water Trust, provides a mechanism to dedicate water rights to preserve and improve the natural environment along a reach of the Cache La Poudre River. At the workshop, the Board also will discuss offers from three area municipalities of contractual interests in “Seed Water Rights” as initial sources of augmentation water to be included in the Poudre Flows Plan. The Board will not take formal action at the workshop.
At its regularly scheduled meeting on November 18-19, 2020, the Board heard presentations on the proposed plan for augmentation and acquisitions of contractual interests in the Seed Water Rights. That meeting was the first meeting of a two-Board meeting process pursuant to Rule 6 of the Board’s Rules Concerning the Colorado Instream Flow and Natural Lake Level Program (“ISF Rules”). The Board may take formal action on the proposed plan for augmentation and acquisitions of contractual interests in the Seed Water Rights at its regularly scheduled meeting on January 25, 2021.
There will be an opportunity for public comment at the workshop. If you want to make a public comment during the workshop, you must contact the Board Coordinator via email (viola.bralish@state.co.us) 2 days prior to the meeting date.
