Walsenburg City Lake Dam Project

Completed in 2019, the Colorado Water Conservation Board supported the City of Walsenburg with its Lake dam rehabilitation and enlargement project through nearly $10 million in loans and grant funding. Walsenburg’s City Lake provides the primary water supply and storage for its water treatment plant. In order to comply with the State Engineer’s Office and Colorado Dam Safety, the City needed to improve several elements of the dam in order to adequately supply their water treatment plant and ensure future water supplies while avoiding seepage, stability and spillway deficiencies. The project elements included dam embankment, reconstruction, new spillway construction, riprap channel lining, and a temporary bypass conduit to route water to the water treatment plant.
